Welcome to Tech in the Car in this video i'm
going to show you around the new Golf MK8. let's look at some settings i didn't show you
in the last video so the first thing to note here is to do with the security settings or the
privacy settings so if we swipe across to here you can see it says privacy settings show my
position what i can do is i can change that so i can change it to use my position i can change
it to no position data or i can change it to maximum privacy and what these various
settings allow you to do is they allow you to share your information as far as location goes in
different apps and different ways so if you don't want somebody to know where you are if you don't
want the app to know where you are you can do that now i'm going to set it to share my position
because i have no problem with that here so that is a setting as far as security goes privacy is
very important to make sure that only you can use your car when i was setting this app up for the
video it required me to have both the car keys so somebody can't just get in your car here we are
in a shop the shop lets you buy certain features and activate them so you can see we have
we connect plus which is how i'm using the app to connect to the car which i'll show you
in a little bit mood lighting which allows you to change the mood lighting amazon alexa so you can
talk to amazon through your car if i tap on that that's the alexa app i can scroll
through i can click on open so i'm gonna set up amazon alexa now with the
car so i can enter that code into my amazon app to connect alexa continue yes i would
like to allow yes i will allow my location your registration is now complete and here we go
alexa is now set up alexa what's the weather today in eastbourne it's 20 degrees celsius with partly
sunny skies today's forecast calls for more of the same with a high of 20 degrees and a low of
11 degrees alexa take me to gatwick airport would you like directions to london gatwick
airport on airport way in gatwick yes please okay getting directions and
there we go that's an example “Alexa” “What is the address for volkswagen eastbourne” the address for kaffen's volkswagen
is hannan's drive eastbourne bn236pw it is open until later today at 6 30 p.m however due to current health and safety measures

let's go back to the shop and see what else is here so we got light assist main control beam and
you can turn it on and off and buy features so this car i expect with this obviously it already
has it but if you don't have the feature then you can buy it this car is probably already stuck
with that so we can't get it but that is how it works very simple very easy to do if you
want to connect your phone to the car and use it as a wi-fi hotspot you can do that as well
and you can scroll through and you can choose how to activate the sim card in the car for that
purpose let's have a look at the settings you can adjust some things you wouldn't be able to adjust
otherwise such as the clock proximity sensors and turn them on and off you can turn the
gestures on and off as well in the settings i can adjust the voice control system here for vw i can connect to the wi-fi as
i mentioned use it as a hotspot i can scroll down i can see mobile devices on
here that were connected with carplay or bluetooth i can see system information and also as you'll see here i can update
the software if there is an update available and i can have direct access to the alexa app alexa what is echo auto and there is
an explanation of what this is what an echo auto is using alexa and let's go back
into radio you can see your radio stations here you can see it as a list as well and you can go
into separate media settings and change the source you can also adjust your sound
settings bass mid and treble you can adjust where the focus is in
the car do you want it towards the back or towards the front and obviously you can adjust
the volume manually as well and you can bring up your notifications and then as i showed you before
you can swipe over to the side to get shortcuts including your privacy settings
which are very very important and then back to the overview dashboard let's look at the app now so the wii
connect app is how you connect your car this is the car i'm in now you can see
that my right hand door is unlocked as i scroll down i can see the status here bonnet
and the boot are closed the windows are closed the lights are off you can see how many miles
i've done you can see when the next service is you can see oil change information
you can see your economy how far you've driven you can see your driving
data when you go for drive it will show you since you covered how long you're driving for your
consumption so you can keep track of your driving you can adjust your permissions as well you can
also add a secondary user if you want to so you can share that data access with other people as
well i can also control the hazard warning lights and the horn from the app of the car and i can
cause the lights to flash and the horn to sound if i want to locate the car or test them
out i can also check out the car settings i can tap on a little settings there and
i can see an overview of the settings i can see my online services that are activated
i can also go in to set my authorized workshop there we go save campaigns esports my authorized
workshop done with contact details as well i can see a vehicle health report this is
very cool allows you to see everything's okay there's no problems with the various parts
of the car and there's no messages related to those and i can see my various notifications
you can create area alerts and speed alerts so if you go too fast you know about it in your
notifications and don't forget as you saw in my driving video when i was getting to a corner
had the driver assistance features on it told me that the speed limit was low and actually
slowed me down on iphone it looked exactly the same as on android on my galaxy fold with a large
screen you could see that everything is the same notifications vehicle health report you can see
the map there so you can set your home address and location so when you go home it knows
where you live you can adjust your settings i've now closed the doors but you can see
here that the windows are open because my rear windows are open because it's a very
warm day so i can see even little bits of information like the windows very easily
in the app let's try out the horn feature you can see there the lights are which is very
