Hi guys! Last time on Basics with Bernhard I hit my 7-iron onto this green. Once the ball is on the green, we have a special club. It’s called the putter. It’s the shortest club generally in the bag and it has the least amount of loft. All the other 13 clubs, we try to get the ball up in the air somewhat, while with the putter we just want to keep it on the ground. So now the goal is to get this ball into the hole as quickly as possible with the least amount of strokes. I stand very relaxed. I have to be comfortable. Keep my head relatively still and my whole body, and I’m just using my shoulders and arms, like so. Now let’s move on to the next hole. So this is a very long hole which means I’m gonna use my driver.
That’s the longest shaft but also flies the furthest. With the driver I tee it a little bit higher and I swing pretty much as hard as I can to get a lot of distance. Very nice, we’ll find that one. So this is where my tee shot ended up. Now my second shot is about 145 metres. I chose the 7-iron. The goal is to get the ball as close to the flag or to the hole as possible, hopefully onto the green. I like it, off we go. So sometimes we miss the green which you can see is right in front of me, but nothing to worry about. We have different clubs to play. We could do a chip and run or a lofted club. In this case, I chose my 60 degree wedge which gets the ball up in the air and I’m gonna play a pitch shot. Keep my feet fairly close together, make a nice, easy swing. All right, let’s make the putt. I’ve already shown you how to putt. Let’s talk about all the other clubs.
By the rules we’re allowed to have 14. We talked about the driver. That goes the furthest. Now we have all these other clubs. They all have numbers on them to differentiate them. They are a little different lengths of shafts, like the 4-iron is longer than the lob wedge if I can show you that right here. Each club has a different loft and they go about 10 to 12 yards – or metres – of different distance. So depending on how far I have, I choose a certain club. Next time on Basics with Bernhard we’ll have a look at all the different parts of the golf course..
