today's video is part one of
diy for golf clubs i'm gonna   show you just how easy it is to
re-grip those golf clubs at home   but what if your head comes off your golf club
you have to take it to a pro shop maybe not stay   tuned for part two and i'm going to show you some
simple golf club repairs you can do right at home before we get started just how often should you
replace your grips it depends on the climate   that you live in and it depends on how much
you play if it gets hot where you live like   it does here in las vegas then you might want
to replace your grips a little more often yes   that was the real temperature today so here are
the tools and supplies we're going to need you're   going to need some grip tape you're going to need
some mineral spirits i like to use the odorless   you're going to need a razor knife some grips and
of course you're going to need a golf club so to   do it at home make sure you have a nice hard
surface so that when you're cutting with that   razor knife that you can get that grip right off
of there the first thing we're going to do is pull   the old grip off and the old tape then we're
going to put the new tape on use the solvent   and put the new grip on so let's get this
grip off you want to take care with a graphite   shaft that you don't slice it so you're
just going to cut the grip and the tape getting the tape off can be a little tricky
especially if it's been dried on there for a while   now i do have a tool that does that
but you can use your fingernail   or you can use your razor knife but you're just
going to start peeling use a little solvent kind of get it wet and just
start working it off of there   and it'll come right off so let's get this
peeled off of there so we can get the new one on now if you have a little residue use a little
steel wool it'll help to pull all that gum right   off of there this does not have to be perfect
but you want to try to get as much as you can   that cleaned up pretty good now let's measure how
much tape we're gonna use i like to take about a   half inch to three quarters of an inch longer
than the actual club and i'll show you why in   a second so we're just going to measure it out
there's about three quarters longer right you   might want to put a mark at the end of the grip
so that your tape doesn't hang past the end of   your grip just for cosmetic reasons we got our
mark on there let's get our tape placed on there hug it up there it can be just a little
bit short and we're letting it hang all   over the end and that's fine so i like
to push all the air bubbles away from the   tape work your air bubbles out now if you have
big hands you can actually add multiple layers   of tape to help thicken the grip you can buy
regular grips and oversized grips as well   but keep that in mind and this
is double-sided tape there we go and we'll pull that right off of there working it
around all right here's the tip you want to stuff   the end of the tape into the end of the shaft now
this is going to make it a lot easier for the grip   to slide over it once you get the solvent on there
all right let's install the grip onto the tape   here's another tip you're going to take this
golf tee put it in the end and you're going to   add your solvent in and make sure you use plenty
especially if it's dry out shake it up fill it up   there we go you can hear it in there rattling
around all right let's put it on use our waist   and it's nice and slippery pack it into the end   and we're going to put our logo straight
up because the club face is wide open   and let's get him started on there
sometimes you need a paper towel   very good oh yeah all right and while
it's still wet we're going to take it out   and we're going to kind of sight it down there
just to make sure that it's good and straight looks pretty good that way when i'm standing
at a dress i can look down the shaft and   my club face will be square all right let's get
this thing cleaned up all right that's got the   club all cleaned up now you can play on this in
about two hours especially here where it's hot i   have re-gripped and played two hours later but you
want to wait at least two hours don't re-grip and   expect to be able to go right out there you can
see just how easy this was to re-grip at home cut   the old grip off and put the new grip on so make
sure you check out our next video and i'll show   you some more simple fixes that you can do at home
i'm glad you watched and i hope you watch again
