– Hey everyone, how's it going? Right, we have another live
lesson on the 14th fair. We're gonna be helping Kevin with his ball striking
and his consistency. Kevin's one of our members
at meandmygolf.com. Let's see how it goes. – So Kevin, look, great
to, thanks for joining us. It's great to have you here. So just tell us a little
bit about your game then. So you mentioned that you sort of score between 85 and 80, sorry, 95. What are the issues with your irons? – So basically, the issues with my irons, usually, is missing the left but today's been missing
to the right, typically. So I just feel like I'm
getting the trapped, the club trapped behind me. So I'm literally pushing
it out to the right or I'll feel I've break down completely. So I'll literally just hit the ball fat and it goes about 10 yards in front of me.

– Okay we've had one of those.
– Yeah, typically. – The first shot was a bit
of a heavy one which we saw. – But they're the main, they're the main sort of issues really that I'm suffering with
my irons at the moment. – Okay, so I think the key thing today is if we can improve the consistency of your strike and the accuracy. Now, the thing today, all the
shots that you've hit today, you haven't hit one left, every one sort of peeled out to the right. But when we look at the golf swing we're gonna see why that is. And we're gonna make a couple of changes that can really help that
consistency of the direction, get you hitting it towards the target, but consistency of strike as well. So let's have a couple more shots and we'll have a little bit
of a look at the numbers in a moment on FlightScope and just see what impact is saying.

Just wanna see what these
balls do again from the start. (club strikes) There's a great example. Lovely contact, but that's
obviously missed the green short right there. So, Piers, just out of interest, what's the numbers on that one? – Okay, so club path is
just a little bit left. Three degrees left, but
again, that's nominal. But the face to path,
Andy, is 12 degrees right. 12.1 degrees right. So club face is quite a bit
open when you're striking it.

And as Andy said, short right
is always going to happen as a result of that. – So what we're going to do first of all, we are going to look at the face, but what I want to show you first of all we've got already got
some videos of Kevin here. We're gonna make a slight
change in his setup before, we're going to make two
changes in his setup. So we take a look here then, Kevin, first of all if I said to you here and looked at your setup what do you notice about that setup there? – Obviously I've got the, feels like I've got the
actual hands behind. – Okay, so there's the fit of the shaft, feels like it's back, yeah? – Yeah, so it's almost like that, with it. – What about the feet? Do we feel the, if I said
the feet are too wide or too narrow, what would you say? – Too narrow, definitely.
– Too narrow, yeah? – Too narrow, yeah, definitely. – So the first thing we're
gonna change is the setup. Now, if we swap places. If you stand just slightly in front there.

So the first thing that
we're gonna take a look at is that your stance here is almost like a pitch shot. So let's say like 70
yard, maybe 60-yard shot. Now, from a stability side of things, if we wanna turn there
it's actually quite hard to keep the leg stable. And we'll see on the screen here in your slow mode that the legs want to, sometimes-
– Collapse.

You mentioned it, collapse. And if we actually get the feet
a little wider so the heels, we always like to see the
heels wider than the hips. As we turn now, we have the stability to actually keep these
legs nice and stable. So the first thing we're gonna do which is gonna feel really strange to you is we're gonna widen the stance. The only thing that we need to do today, my goal for you, is to
get the face more square to the path of impact. That's the only thing we need to change. And if we can do that, you're gonna start to
hit the golf ball better. And that will also impact
your strike as well.

So let's take your setup to that. And I want you to just go
shoulder-width stance for me. I want you to go a little
wider, there we go. Perfect, now how does that feel to you? – Yeah it feels different, very different. – Okay, feels like a driver stance almost. Yeah?
– Yeah, to be fair, yeah. – He basically looked at you and went, "You seriously want me to
hit the shot from here?" – So all I want you to do to start with, this might actually you hit
a few heavy to start with but I want you to hit a couple of shots and then we're gonna make
a couple of other changes. Maybe one more change. (club strikes) – (laughs) Oh, maybe you
just had to do that, Andy? (club strikes) – Okay, very nice. Interesting that actually
just make a slight adjustment to the setup there. Notice though on that one, that's gone, that started
obviously straighter what about the distance on that one? – It's gone a lot further.
– It's gone a lot further because the face was squarer, yeah? – 147 that was carry versus 140 before.

So seven yards further. – First thing we're
gonna look at is the grip and if you take your setup for me and we mentioned this before
we actually came on camera here and you sort of said, "Oh, I'm not sure if my
grip is strong enough." Or you know, what I'd
actually like you to do just slightly with your top hand, Kevin, is just move it round to
the left a little bit. So, sorry to the right,
sorry, there you go. So even a little bit more? Good, so we're gonna strengthen that.

So you could almost see
potentially two to three knuckles and you can certainly see that. So notice how your thumb
is now ever so slightly down the right-hand side. Okay, now this will
impact the face at impact. Now, all I wanna do is get
you to hit a few shots first feeling this strong left
hand or stronger left hand and we're gonna see the
face to path difference. Can you go a little stronger for me? There you go, what does that feel like? – Wow, it feels really round. – It feels a bit strange, yeah? – Yeah, really strange, feels
like it's really far round. – Perfect, so let's hit a few shots and the only numbers we're gonna look at, we're obviously gonna
look at the ball flight, but we're gonna look at the face to path and see what changes with this. (club strikes) Okay, not the best strike. It's hard to sometimes hit
with a grip change like that. (club strikes) Okay nice shot, how did that feel? – Totally different.
– That was good, yeah? – Yeah, it felt like really solid contact.

– Good. (club strikes) Okay, beautiful, now. Excellent, let's take a look at the number on that one, Piers. – It didn't get it. Only joking, only joking! I'm gonna have to show
it to Kevin, 0.6 left. – Right.
– Okay. So, so different now. And again, you know,
just, just interesting. It still went high, but the initial launch off
the face was a lot better. I'll come to that later, but
that was much, much better. Beautiful shot. – So although it feels
strange this, Kevin. I always think a grip change, you know, you move the hand a small amount, it's like, "Oh my god, how
can I even hit the golf ball?" But I think the key thing
with this is if we can make a, if we can change your impact without you even having
to think about your swing, then it's so much easier.

If we can do it with
adjustments in the setup, you can get on the golf course and you can not have to think so much. – The one thing with this as
well, strengthening your grip. So actually moving it
from weak to stronger is definitely easier to do as well. So he's on the right side of the change, that's for sure. (club strikes) – Okay, really, really nice on that one.
– Mega shot. – Now that one, we really
exaggerated the hand on that one, Piers, to make
sure it was more than enough. But actually I think that was,
that's where we need to be.

I actually liked that. That was about, that felt a lot to you, Kevin, yeah?
– Yeah. (club strikes) – Beautiful.
– Yeah, good shot. – Now, face to path, Piers, please? Would be lovely to hear. – That one was actually six to the left. – Six to the left? Which is exactly what we want. Now, with your face to path
being open at the start, it just, we've mentioned it
with Stephen actually didn't we? How this, when the face to path is open, it sort of, it stops
everything from working. So you having a narrow stance actually helps you square the face. Whereas now what we're
doing is we're saying, well if we can get the face
more closed to the path, we go wider stance, the
body gets more involved.

We improve the power but we
improve the consistency as well. So it's almost like a knock-on effect with everything really. Shaft forward a little. Excellent, love that. Okay, let's give it a bit of power on this one for us, Kevin. (club strikes) Okay, there we are now.
– Beautiful golf shot. – Best shot you've hit today. And I wanted you to put a
bit of speed into it there because you can now,
because the face is better. Piers, please tell me
that you got that one? – Yeah. we've got it, we've got it. Okay, so that's actually,
it was still open but only by one degree. So 0.9 to the right. – Beautiful shot though
again straight at the target. – That was nice. – Did you think it was gonna be so simple today?
– No, not at all. (laughs) – And the thing is, it's interesting. It is very, very simple but it's actually quite hard to do the simple things well, isn't it?
– It is, it is. – Getting this correct for you.

We'll give you some more feedback, we'll do some more videos on our phones or even on your phone.
– Massive difference. – And go, "Right, this is what
you need to be able to check on a daily basis." – Okay, bit stronger with the grip again. Okay, there you go. (club strikes) – And this can be so simple as just spending five minutes a day, just standing in front of a mirror, making sure you get good feedback. And if someone says they
can't get five minutes a day, then obviously they don't
want to improve their golf. So you haven't necessarily
got to go to the driving range to actually get better here.

– Some of that make sense, yeah? – Yeah, brilliant.
– Some things to practice on. And we are gonna go through with Kevin a couple of things that need some work on in his golf swing past this. But I think, you know, this is the thing. If you came to me for a
lesson just in the flesh on your own with no cameras around, it would be, "Okay, go away, work at that, work at your grip, work your stance." And that'll be the only
focus that you need. Keep it as simple as
that 'cause you can see how difference.
– Massive. Just those two changes
impacts the direction. – So there you have it, I
hope you enjoyed that video. If you did that lesson if you did make sure you hit the like
button, give us a thumbs up. And if you're interested in
getting a lesson like this then just comment down below.

We'll let you know exactly how you need to go about
that, see you soon..
