Chicken wing in golf swing. Do you suffer
from the chicken wing? You've tried
everything to fix it and nothing seems to work. It's robbing you of power,
accuracy and just a lot of consistency on the golf course. In this next video
I'm going to show you two simple drills to fix your chicken wing so you can make
better contact with the golf ball and have a lot more fun out there. I'll see you
soon. Hey it's Troy from www.hittingitsolid.com
here. At this channel I show you how to
play the game of golf easy, with simple at-home drills that lead to lasting
improvement in the game of golf. Make

can keep on improving and playing better golf together, so let's get started. Chicken wing in the golf swing. So you've
looked at your swing on video or you've had a buddy at golf tell you that you're
doing the chicken wing and it's really just killing your consistency and making it
difficult for you to shoot lower scores on the golf course.
So I'm going to
explain what the chicken wing is and some great drills, two drills
specifically that are going to help you get rid of it so you can play much
better golf. So first thing I want to go
through what the chicken wing looks like and some reasons why you might be doing
it. So I'm just set up to a ball here and
I'll show you this from two different Angles. Typically what a chicken wing
looks like on the downswing as you come down and make contact with the golf ball. You might look pretty good at this stage
but as you pass through impact your arms will separate and your elbows will
remain bent. So I'll show you this down
towards the camera, this will show it really clearly as you come down the arms
separate like that, the elbows actually get wider apart they're nice and bent
like that and you'll end up in this sort of position like this. And golfers that
do this typically will have a reduced distance, consistency here a lot of shots
that are really weak and thin shots and it just wrecks your golf score.
So
important that you do fix your chicken wing. So there's some concepts I just
want to go through with why you might be doing this. So typically some
things to think about with the chicken wing are it's feeling like your
arms stay relatively about the same distance from the backswing just through
past impact. And if you can understand
that simple concept that will help you get rid of your chicken wing and play a
lot better golf. So what I mean by that
is. I'm set up here as you come through I'd
like to feel as though my arms just remain about that same width apart right
through from start to finish. And if you
can do that and that really will help you get rid of that chicken wing a
lot quicker.
So from down towards the
camera you can see there I'm just keeping those arms nice and relaxed
keeping them about the same distance apart. Now another reason why you might
be getting that chicken wing it can be due to not releasing properly
post-impact. And what I mean by that is
down towards the camera again, if you're doing the chicken wing you'll
like this and the club is not actually being released at all you can see my
left elbow is pointing way at this and when the right one's way out there so
we're not getting any release in the club, no power. Ideally what you want to
see happen is as we come through the club releases you'll see that left elbow
is pointing down towards the ground same with the right one and the club has
released. You see the butt end of the
club will be pointing somewhere down in front of the golf ball. It's not pointing
out there like that, but it releases and it's pointing down somewhere like that. That's a lot more powerful golf swing
which will lead to much better golf.
So
in the next bit I'm going to show you two simple drills so we can fix this chicken
wing once and for all. Okay let's look at two drills for
getting rid of this chicken wing on the golf swing. So first thing we’re going look at
is, grab yourself a ball. Take one like
this with any sort of ball, a soccer ball or
something that's not too big because we want it to be able to fit comfortably
between our arms like this. Now the first
part of the drill we don't even need a golf club. As I explained in the first
part of the video if you can understand the simple concept of keeping those arms
the same distance they were at set up all the way through to the finish. That will help you get rid of that
chicken wing. So I'm going to do
is grab a ball, I want you to make a swing and then feel like I'm going be
handing that ball to someone down the target line.
So what I'm going to do is
going to go back swing I'm going to hand the ball to someone over here and it's
really important when you're doing this that you're rotating. One of the other
issues with the chicken wing. There's golfers that get over the ball
and they don't rotate and that automatically makes your arms bend and
I'll show you that from down the line in just a second. But all we're trying to do
here let's make a swing, rotate arms about the same distance apart handing
the ball to someone there so from down towards the camera. You'll see naturally
when I do that this left this left arm here just wants to fold naturally at the
elbow pointing down which is perfect. This is simple exercise you can practice
at home. Make sure you're rotating
and that helps you get rid of that chicken wing.
So let's grab a club. So
we're going to do it this is going to put the ball right in that little elbow
pit area, pop it in there and I’m going to do the same exercise only
with the golf club. So we're going to
swing back. You don't have to do
a full swing make sure you're rotating and you can see there there's no chance
I'm going to do a chicken wing with that ball between my arms, no chance at all.
Keep them nicely together if you really
want you can hit golf balls doing this at the
range, but it's not necessary. This is
really just training you at home to keep those arms closer together nice and soft
and make nice gentle swings. So that's a
really simple couple of drills that you can practice at home to help you out
with that chicken wing.
Now I just want
to touch on quickly what I was talking about with that lack of rotation. Another
reason why that chicken wing happens if I'm aiming down at the camera here. A lot
of golfers, they become too fixated down on where the ball might be and they
forget to rotate and when you don't rotate those arms will naturally stay
bent. So if you can imagine I don't
rotate much look what happens to my arms. Again this one gets very bent and you
get in this position here.
So it's really
important as you're doing the drills that we rotate and get this chest
pointing down towards the line of the target. So on this other view here as
we go through, rotate really important, you get that rotation that'll help get
rid of that chicken wings. Hope those two
drills help you out make sure you practice those as often as you can
they'll get rid of that chicken wing once and for all. Drop a comment down
