Hello, my name is Chris Ardolina and I'm a
golf instructor, here, at the Jim McClean Golf School located at at the Dural Resort
and Spa located in Miami, Florida. In this clip, we're going to teach you how to properly
start your down swing, okay. I have a driver in my hand, so we're going to take it right
immediately to the top of my golf swing. So, we're getting ready, and we're going to swing
to the top. Now, where do we go from here. A lot of people think you're just going to
swing down and your whole body goes down. That's absolutely incorrect, okay. When you're
at the top of your golf swing, here, okay, wherever it may be. It could be higher, lower,
longer, it doesn't really matter.
If you look at the guys on tour; a lot of different length
back swings, okay. The most important this, is how they start the down swing though. So,
when they get to the top, you'll notice that there's a slight movement with their hip,
more laterally towards the target, okay. You'll never really see a spin out move start first,
but you'll always see a slight lateral movement with the hip first, okay. Now, this action
actually occurs before that back swing is actually completed. So, they'll be swinging
back and before they swing back, you'll see the slight movement of the hip towards the
target, just before the club starts to drop, okay. So, the idea of this, is remember, start
your down swing with your lower body.
Don't start it with your upper body. The arms and
the hands are passive. So, the lower body is going to control the start of the down
swing. So, remember, laterally towards the target and allow your hands and arms to be
passive. In today's clip, we've taught you how to correctly start the down swing..
