For me, the main component of a good strategy is the so-called lay-up distance. A distance that is for me about 80 meters. And for me the pitch is favforite shot. I try as often as possible to incorporate it in my game. So when I have a par 5 with 445 meters here, the full risk is in the driver and 3 wood. I prefer playing a hybrid and a 6-iron, then my favorite shot, make a small pitch to the green. This way I have great chances for par, if not a birdie. The layup distance not only helps in the successful strategy, but also in a failed strategy. My drive here is too far to the right, so I would have to play a huge slice to get around the trees on the green. Or taking the risk of playing over the trees. With my layup distance I have an alternative. I'll play it in front of the green and then my favorite shot to the pin.
Maybe I'll save my par this way. With the right strategy Golf can be so easy..
