This time on Basics with Bernhard we’re explaining different parts of the golf course. And it all starts with the tee box. The tee box means the area where I can start putting the tee in the ground and the ball. Now we have two tee markers, we call them. In the rules of golf I have to tee it up in this area. Not closer to the hole but between the two tee markers and two club lengths back. That is my area that’s called the tee box where I can start the hole. Off we go. So when I hit the tee ball it either lands on the fairway, which is this beautiful, short, manicured grass. This is where I wanna be. Or we could end up in the rough, which is this long, thick grass, which is much harder to play from. So ideally we wanna be on the fairway, have a good lie and then hit our next shot onto the green. Keep it on the fairway. So sometimes the ball ends up in a water hazard. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s not ideal.

You get a penalty shot and you can drop another ball within two club lengths of where it went in or all the way back. And you drop it from the knee height, within the two club lengths and then you play it from there, but you lose one penalty stroke. So I ended up in a sand trap here and I’m just trying to get it out, back into play, out onto the green. This is the green where we finish the hole. You see my ball ended up here. Now I’m going to putt. Next time on Basics with Bernhard we’re looking at the golf vocabulary and the scoring system that we use in the game of golf..
