Hi welcome to We Play Golf. Do you know why and how high you should
tee up your ball when you play an iron? Do you know what the difference will make? I'm gonna show you today! Welcome back to We Play Golf. The golf channel where you
really can learn how to play golf. If you are new to this channel, consider subscribing. In today's episode we're gonna talk
about the tee height for an iron. How you can get consistent
and how can you get it further and how can you get a lower or higher trajectory only by using a smaller or a longer tee. Why would you consider using a tee when you hit an iron? well, you want to use a tee
to get more consistent striking and into the center of the club When you don't use a tee
on the tee box for playing an iron, you really have to know that the impact of the golf
club should be perfectly into the middle of the ball…
Striking down through the ball. That would be just the same thing
like you do on the fairway. So, make it a little easier… Tee it up only like half a centimeter which makes it easier to hit the ball For a starter… you want the ball to be on a little higher tee
and just knock the ball easier off the tee now what will change when you use a higher tee?
For a better play you'll get the ball higher up in the air. It might be useful when you
play with the wind from behind…
…and get the ball to fly further. The other way if you
hit the ball from the ground I'll be using more a Down stroke onto the ball and get the ball lower in the flight. And in the in the middle I would take this… very small tee height only like
5 millimeter, 1/2 centimeter off the ground to make sure I get the ball first
and then hit the grass. we will change the tee height as well
when you use another club. So if I hit a 9-iron, I don't want to tee it up
that high because I already have a lot of loft. So it will help me just to tee it up only
one centimeter, not as much I will do with a 5-iron. Because with a 5-iron I can place the
ball further forward in our stance I hit that little upward swing to the ball
without hitting the grass making sure that I can get the ball to the
sweet spot without hitting the grass.
For a starter, that will make it easier to hit that
long iron in the middle of the fairway For the better player, when you use
a 9-iron or a 5-iron he would only take a five millimeter height tee just to make that crispy contact
with the ball first… and never have to hit the ground before you hit the ball. So, if I would hit the 5-iron just like from the fairway… without a tee get the ball to
the center of this of the stance but the other ones I will have
the ball slightly more forwards I'll try to get that crispy contact from a 5-iron and you get that lower shot lower flight.
Now…
Move away the divot now the ball is teed up only five millimeter and place the ball a little outside
center to the front foot. And now I can hit that ball… without needing to hit the ground so I can
swing it off the tee without using the ground it will fly a little higher it's gone the
same direction and it's got a little bit more distance as well. So for the starter, you actually want
to have the ball teed up a little higher… to make sure you don't need to hit the ground you can stay a little taller and
swing more up through the ball Now, that ball is flying a lot higher and is actually gone further… then in two shots before,
because it has been hit straight into the middle after you've hit the shot, you might find the stripe
on the sole the club telling you you've hit it in the middle of the golf club. And that's when you've done it correctly. Now you know why you should tee up your ball
and how how you should tee it up…
For the tee shots with your irons. This is how We Play Golf,
see you next time! Hi, welcome back to We Play Golf Nee… (no) Hi, welcome to We Play Golf. Do you know why you would
