welcome to the back to basis golf 10 part drill series this is the alignment stick drill [Music] this simple drill can be used to improve your ability to aim correctly all you need is your putter five balls an alignment stick and a coin here's how the drill works start by placing the coin on the ground the coin will be your target to aim at then place five balls at various spots about five feet from the coin step two proceed to the first ball go through your pre-shot routine and prepare to hit the putt focus on aiming your putter at the coin when you think the putter is aimed at the coin move the ball out of the way be careful to keep the putter head exactly where it was and carefully place the alignment stick at the right angle to the putter face pointing in the direction of the coin step three observe whether or not the alignment stick is really aimed at the coin or is it actually aimed to the left or to the right step four move on to the remaining golf balls making sure you go through the complete pre-shot routine and continue to observe the results you'll immediately learn whether or not you're aiming correctly the eyes can sometimes play tricks on us when we think we're aiming but we actually may not be going that way that's why this drill is so helpful it will reveal your natural tendency to aim right or left to the target by re-aiming the alignment rod so that it actually aimed directly at the coin you'll retrain your eyes for the proper line and aim the putter head precisely down that line this is the alignment stick drill
