hey everyone sean clement here going solo this week and it's an important subject we've got how to start the downswing properly what's the sequence when we talk about the right timing in the golf swing what do we mean by that this is really important stuff that's going to hit home in a big way so you don't want to miss this episode [Music] and before we continue of course we would love for you to subscribe to the channel hit that notification bell so you don't miss any videos and i'll be happy to answer comments and questions down below if the need arises so we'll see you immediately in the video in order for you to understand how to initiate the downswing properly you need to understand a fundamental on how the weight shifts from the back foot to the front foot and so many of you are still within the understanding that you have to go load up the weight on the backside which causes so many of you to sway off the ball and then you feel that you have to go make an effort to shift the weight onto that front leg in the downswing whereas actually it happens from behind you so a very important drill that we have if you look at our feet together drill the weight of my arms going into the back swing when my feet are together has to be counterweighted by the swivel of my butt in the opposite direction very much like a catapult or a trebuchet works so the way i load that up notice how the butt moves in that direction so when i perform that back swing a la jack nicklaus sam sneed ben hogan bobby jones it's an immediate turn of the hips the rib cage and the pelvis turn immediately behind you so i invite you to go check out lower body in the downswing sean clement an oldie but a real goodie to show you how the anatomy actually works during that movement so i finished my back swing how does the weight shift pay attention don't blink i've shifted my weight so the weight actually shifts from behind you notice how my body is ready to lower itself right into the inside of my lead foot to begin the downswing so it's actually turn fall into that forward side i started a video a long time ago has well over 000 hits on it it was called best downswing weight shift sean clement and it illustrates in an exaggerated way how that weight shifts this is exactly how rory mcilroy ben hogan bobby jones watch rory mcilroy as he's getting to the top of the backswing how he shuffles his butt toward the target and falls from behind into his lead leg and then the the brain can use that lead leg to get the body out of the way to go to the target it's the only way you can use your body adequately to clear your hips to go to the target so the sequencing is turn out of the way shift turn out of the way that's how everything works that's how your arms can swing freely throughout the golf swing now here's a really easy way you're going to be able to perform that task we call it the walking drill so if you go see another video of mine called grass whip training this is a grass cutting tool first and foremost so if i'm cutting grass and i'm cutting my rows of grass notice how i'm walking naturally and the timing of that movement is always spot on if i do it towards you when i'm walking towards you notice my center gravity stays very centered so i'm not going to walk in this manner in your direction it's very inefficient so when i'm walking and cutting grass in your direction notice how my head stays nice and centered notice how the weight stays inside the feet see how my weight shifted from my right back into my left that's what's going to allow you to complete the back swing without swaying just having that understanding now once you've completed that backswing all we need is a simple task to get you to the target well guess what out of pure self-preservation your body is armed to deliver lots of different tasks to target so let's say i wanted to throw something towards you the first move notice i'm moving towards you i'm shifting now the brain is going to use that front leg to move my body out of the way so i have access to throwing towards you so it looks like this so if i'm skipping a stone on water see my my sequence everything shifts into that forward leg forward leg uses the ground get out of the way and there you have it so if i'm throwing a club it would be the same thing weight shifts body clears throw the club looks like a tennis serve doesn't it could easily be that if i'm going in that direction weight shifts body clears throw the club if i'm throwing with both arms body turns out of the way so that weight can shift properly body clears throw the club so if i just throw the club in the direction of a target very specific notice how at the end of my swing everything is facing the target i have cleared i have cleared by how much well the right amount to throw the club over there so my brain is going to go get the ground it's going to clear the body just the right amount if i'm thinking turn the hips i could easily throw it right over the golf bags over here but if i'm throwing the club in the direction i want the ball to go then the brain is going to clear me about that much so i have access in that direction so bottom line all you have to do is complete your backswing so that you're staying very close to that forward leg and then throw your club in the direction that you want that ball to start so if i had an intermediate point right here and i want to throw it let's say just to the right edge of that intermediate point so i'm going to gather and then for me to throw that way the brain is going to go get the ground notice how i lowered my brain now has the ground it's going to turn me out of the way notice how i'm coming from the inside i cannot come over the top from here and now i'm throwing in that direction so have a look gather throw so notice how that ball started just right edge of that intermediate point right there exactly in the direction i wanted to start the ball so have a look at munashe and sav hitting a couple of shots right here and if you look at how savannah's going about her business her focus is throwing the club to the left of the intermediate point that's out right there in front of her and you can see how everything is releasing out towards the target and monash his deal is compress the volleyball into the picture so he's focused on this compression moving the volleyball into the direction he wants to start so when he comes to the golf ball he's thinking about the same thing and it's very easy for him to stay connected to the target without losing clarity on how the ball gets compressed in that direction so i hope you guys enjoyed that video stay tuned for next week where we're going to show you how to better organize that backswing all the best [Music]
