My name is Bernhard Langer. I’m a professional golfer. For some of you that don’t play golf, I want to explain the basics. The goal of golf is to hit the ball from the tee markers which you can see here into a hole that’s anywhere from 100 to 650 yards away. This is a golf ball. Here I got a 7-iron. Now in golf, we have par 3s, par 4s and par 5s. This is a par 3. I get a little tee between these two markers, not forward of it. One of the basic things is obviously the address position and the grip. So the left hand and the right hand, they work together. They’re not twisted or this way or that way. They work together like that, so I can control the club face. Next thing, now it’s the aim. So I’m aiming with my club face towards the hole and I try to position my stance, my knees, hips, shoulders, in a fashion that is also aiming at the hole. Very important. I flex my knees a little bit, have a reasonably straight back so I’m well balanced. I’m not on my toes or heels and then we make the golf swing.

That’s the first session Basics with Bernhard. So on the next episode, we’re gonna talk about why we have 14 clubs and how to use them..
