[Chad] -We're supporting the, like, gyroscopic aiming. And so, that's a new thing that [ethereal electronic music] we previously could never do. [Kit] -Love that– [Krysta] -Yes, I need that. -I'm all about hammering reps. You can tell that from my physique. [chuckling] [Nintendo Minute jingle] -Hi guys, welcome back to Nintendo Minute. [cheery synth music] We are super excited today to be joined by a very special guest, Chad, who is the director on Apex Legends. [ethereal electronic music] [Kit] -Incredible, welcome! [Krysta] -Thanks for joining us. Yeah, welcome. -I'm excited. Thanks for having me. -So, we get to pick your brain a little bit before the game launches on Nintendo Switch and, um, learn a little bit about the game and what might be, you know, good tips for anyone that's a beginner.

We're definitely beginners. -I'm guessing a lot of people watching this video are beginners too, if they wanna admit or not. It's a great game. [Krysta] -We're all here to support each other as beginners. -Yeah, I mean, Apex is a team game an-we've, we've, we built it to be a team game. It's not your typical, um, you know, go off on your own and, and camp, kind of a game. So, um, you know, when the game starts and you're in the dropship, uh, one of your teammates is gonna be appointed the Jumpmaster and they get to decide where, you know, where you enter the map, uh– [Krysta] -Mm. -and so, it's really important to stay with the Jumpmaster. We let you disconnect and kind of go, la- do you own landing if you want. But I would say that's more for, like, an experienced player with, like, you know, certain strategies. So, I would just say stick with your teammate, and if you're appointed the Jumpmaster and you're- and you're nervous about where you should land, you can always pass the Jumpmaster to a- to another teammate and let someone else do it.

[Kit] -Like hot potato with that Jumpmaster. [Krysta] -Yeah that's, I,I,I was just gonna say, it's such a hot potato. Like, I would never want to have the responsibility of the Jumpmaster. It sounds, it already sounds a little uh, a bit- like a big responsibility so, Kit, you're it! -Ahh. Oh, no! -You're it. [Krysta chuckles] Now, Chad, what about, this game has so many characters and they're all so cool and so different. If you were again just starting from, from nothing from the very beginning, who do you recommend? -Yeah, th-I think there's a few characters that are, that are really good for, like, beginner players, but also, you can play them your entire Apex career and they're actually very good characters.

Um, you know, I'll start with Bangalore. Bangalore is, is, um, I would say an easier character to play. She has a passive ability that, that just happens automatically so you don't have to remember to use it. [Krysta] -Hm. -And, and it's called Double Time. So, when somebody is shooting at you, you actually get an increased movement speed bonus. And ju-like I said, it just happens. So, you're in a, you're in a gunfight, someone's shooting at you, now you're just moving faster. You don't have to think to push a button. So that's really great. Another good one is, Octane. Um, Octane actually regens some health automatically over time. So, if you're a new player, you're forgetting to use your health packs and things like that and you're frantic, you're just healing over time, which is great.

Um, also it's a lot of fun to throw down a jump pad, you know, bounce up to a rooftop, or launch your teammates, you know, whatever it might be. I'll move on to Gibraltar, uh, another great beginner character. Again, the passive ability just happens automatically. Gibraltar has an arm shield. So when you're ADSing, uh, your, your various guns, you actually have a shield that pops up on your arm and gives you some added protection against, uh, incoming fire. Um, and it's just, it's an automatic thing. So, maybe you'll stay alive a little bit longer with that added protection. And then, my personal favorite is Lifeline.

Um, Lifeline has an AOE healing drone. Um, so just really easy to heal you and your teammates. You know, she has the ability to call down a care package. That is, basically, just this drop pod that comes from the sky, and it has three doors that open up and give you free loot. And a lot of times it's, it's better armor or it's something, you know, like health or, or shield, um, and so, you know, Lifeline's a really good legend for team play. You can bring in these supplies for your teammates, but also selfishly, if you're just wanting more loot, you can drop in a care package, and just take it.

[Krysta] -Yeah, I like how all the different characters have sort of, um, you know, a pretty wide range of abilities. I actually love playing any sort of healing characters in a game like this, so I think Lifeline might be one of my, is gonna be, probably gonna be-become one of my favorites, as well. -Lifeline can just throw her drone out at a downed teammate, and the drone, i-i-it's called D.O.C. The D.O.C. drone, can actually heal the teammate and you can remain, uh, in cover– [Krysta] -Safe.

-or in, or in the, in the fight. Um, so it's an awesome added bonus. It actually makes Lifeline really powerful. [Krysta] -That's supercool. -So, you can make it rain care packages while I act a fool. Sound good? -You can do that and then I will just take all the loot. [Chad] -And then pick you up. [everyone laughing] -Perfect. And you're, you're also the– -Loot though.

Loot. [Krysta] -I want the loot. -That's a good segue. -We can talk, let's, let's talk about loot. I think, um, you know, loot is definitely one of the ways you can, sort of, gain an advantage when you're playing, um. Can you tell us a little bit more about, you know, how to strategically use all the loot in the game? -Yeah. Well, step one, you know, find a Mozambique. [crickets chirping] -I'm kidding. Uh. [chuckles] Mozambique's a great weapon but, but, uh, yeah, there's a lot of weapons in the game.

And so, which weapon you choose, I think, comes down to largely preference. The, the guns are actually very well-balanced, so, I wouldn't worry too much about what gun. I would say, find your, find the style that you like. I'll say that the priority should really be around getting armor. That's, that's the easily, the most important part of being successful in the game, is getting your armor. Um, and so, you can actually pick up any of the tiers of armor, um, white, blue, or purple. You can also evolve the armor. So, if you have white armor and you do a couple hundred damage, you'll actually evolve your armor from white to blue, and then you can again evolve it from blue to purple.

And so, um, engaging in combat is a good way to level up your gear if you're not finding it. And then, we also have these crafting stations called Replicators. And, throughout the match, you'll find crafting resources. And you can just go to one of these Replicators and upgrade your armor there, which is a great way to get purple, uh, armor. [Kit] -Speaking of loot, something we've heard a lot about are these Hot Zones which seem to be this cool, like, risk-reward thing. I-if you're a beginner, how, what's your take on, on how they should approach those? Yeah, so, the Hot Zone is indicated on the map during the drop. It's, it's got a big beacon and, and you can see, uh, clearly see in the map where the Hot Zone is. The Hot Zone contains some sort of gold-level loot. And so, it draws in players to go there because it could be a gold armor, it could be a gold fully-kitted weapon.

The, um, you know, the negative of the Hot Zone is, like, a lot of people go there and it's gonna be a hot combat zone. That why it's called the Hot Zone. So, I would say i-if you're trying, if you're a beginner player, and you're looking to get repetition with the combat and fire the guns and get rep- and get reps, the Hot Zone can be a great place to jump to, and just immediately find a gun and engage in combat.

Now, another strategy for a new player could be to avoid the Hot Zone, because you know that it's going to be crazy. If you're just looking to go to a quiet area of the map, you know, learn the map, find some loot and, kind of, have the weapon you like, and have the gear and all that stuff before you enter combat, I would say avoid the Hot Zone. So, that's sort of again personal choice. Are you looking for reps, or are you looking for a slower pace start to your game? -Slower pace start to the game. -I'm all about hammering reps, you can tell that from my physique. [chuckling] -Oh, boy, we're really getting into some weird territory now. I think you talked a lot about, sort of, how this is, you know, a team game and, and if you're not playing with me and I'm playing with a team of, of Kits, [Kit laughing] what is the, what is the, uh, Kit level team? Not very good.

What is the best way to sort of communicate with my team and work together as a team, I guess, to be successful? -Yeah, that's a great question. We actually are really proud of this ping system that we built in the game. And it's interesting, we actually forced the, the dev team to play the game for months with no text chat, no voi– [Krysta] -Oh, wow. -no head comms, no, like, no voice. Um, and it, and it allows us to build this really awesome ping system, where you can communicate just about anything you need to with your teammates using the in-game ping system. And, it's gonna be on your, um, on your, on your bumper button, on the Switch. You can ping, uh, enemies location. You can also ping, um, loot for your teammates and, and see pings that your, your teammates are pinging for you. -Any other, you know, sort of unique, um, elements, aspects of the game on, uh, on Nintendo Switch that you're excited about? -We're supporting the, like, gyroscopic aiming.

And so, that's a new thing that we previously could never do. [Kit] -Love that. [Krysta] -Yes, I need that. [Krysta laughs] [Chad] -Yeah, it's a lot of fun. Um, you know, I still need some more practice, but it's cool to, kind of just, aim in that way. And, and I think a lot of players are gonna be, you know, uh, owning a lot of people using that, uh, control scheme. [chuckling] [Kit] -Well, thank you for that, and any time there's a shooter coming to Nintendo Switch that's always, uh, very highly requested from the community. So, I think that's gonna go over really well.

-Yeah. That's gonna be great. -Yeah, glad we could support that right out, right out of the box, so. -Yeah. Well, we're super excited. Um, we can't wait. I think these are all really good tips for, for beginners and we can't wait to jump into the game and– [music fades] -Ready to dominate. [cheery synth music] -Yeah, we're ready, we're ready now. We're gonna, we're gonna win now. It's gonna be awesome. [chuckles] Thank you so much for hanging out and, and sharing some of, uh, some of these great tips with us. -Yeah, it's my pleasure and thanks. -All right. Well, I think we are going to wrap it up for today, and remember: -Nintendo Minute is never a minute. -We'll see you guys next week. Bye. -Bye. -Bye.
