These are the original stock brakes for my Golf They are solid rotor, single piston caliper They work fine for me I could be wrong but I think there rotors and pads are 8 years old Because I think I changed them that long ago When my rotor exploded during hard braking not long after I bought the car I could probably keep running these brakes but 8 years is long time, so I think it's time to rebuild the caliper And I always wanted to fit vented brake discs, so I'm going to do that the pads look great there is barely any lip right there so they are pretty much good, but I'm going to change them anyway so, these are the new parts I chose vented and slotted Brembo brake discs and brake pads and some various rubber parts for restoring the caliper This shinny new looking caliper came from the blue parts car I cleaned it up, painted it it was meant for the Mexico Beige project car, but it just was collecting dust on my shelf so I decided to use it The Mark One GTI brake caliper piston size is 48mm and so is this, so i think this will work just fine Same with the brake discs and other parts when I was buying them I just selected the GTI option fitting the inner seal brake fluid for lubrication brake piston outer seal dust boot pushing piston in caliper pushing it all the way in so there is space for the new brake pads lubing the plastic slide pin inserts not sure if the white plastic inserts should go in first or after pushing the slide pin rubbers through caliper holes these plastic inserts were tricky to fit this one went in way easier making sure they seated properly It was definitely a struggle for me, but these came out looking so nice SHINNY 🙂 Taking reference photos and a pic for the thumbnail unbolting caliper mounting bolts disconecting brake caliper old brake disc off cleaning the sliding surface with a wire wheel must be smooth for the best brake feel brake pads should slide freely now connecting new caliper to brake line cleaning new brake disc from transporting oil new disc/rotor fitted checking pad fittment grease up the sliding surface grease up the pad ends that meet up with those surfaces fit brake pad anti rattle hardware probably way too much copper grease 😀 place caliper in it's place, tighten the bolts again, pics for video thumbnail other side, repeat everything here make sure pad hardware is fitted in the correct orientation I couldn't be happier how they turned out I think they look just great bleeding brakes air bubbles coming out from the tube inside of wheel was dirty from a torn CV joint boot Here are the old parts I'm definitely keeping the calipers I'll rebuild those and …

… put them on the Brown MK1 Discs and pads I should throw them out, but the hoarder in me says – keep em 🙂 So, the end result the brakes feel great I'm pretty sure that's just because I rebuilt the calipers And I probably can't feel the difference from the vented and slotted discs on my daily drive but they look great ant that's what counts 👍.
