players I like golf I mean I really enjoy golf but I absolutely love golf on a beautiful-looking course what's even better is a course that makes you feel sad on the 16th hole to know that you only have two more holes to go and then it's finished Forest City makes me feel this way every single time I love the place now I've played some nice courses in my life but none like Forest City this place is immaculate they opened the second course the classic course in August 2019 you've seen my videos on the first course the Jack Nicholson course which is very playable it's much more beginner and high handicap friendly and is super fun to play this new course the classic course is much more challenging and just as spectacular I met and played with his subscriber and true player named Ian what legend what a man a subscriber Jim doors messaged me on Facebook and suggested I use six clubs like the way golf was played back in the day by that he meant used similar lofted clubs to match those old six clubs here's an image of what it should look like I don't have a 13 to 15 degree loft so I settled on my two iron with 18 degrees for the mid iron I used my shrieks indeed five eight five six iron the mashie was my Mizuno MP 62 seven iron I used my Mizuno pitching wedge at 47 degrees for the mashie Niblick and the 50-degree cleveland as the Niblick the 50-degree club was my big mistake but you'll only see why as we get into the round okay welcome to Forest City golf course they have just opened a brand new course yeah it's called the classic golf course and it's designed by a man whose name I can't pronounce him do we're gonna have to manage the course a little bit because I need to lay up to the distances I want to hit on a brand new course and this course has only been open since the 18 of August so it's only been a couple months it looks unbelievable just like the other Jack Nicholson course does so see what happens let's see if we can manage the distances to get these clubs to the correct distance oh I have a nice shot into the green it's going to be tough never seen it before apparently there's water everywhere let's see some key things to notice one the focus on course management when you have limited clubs is very revealing and very important to I needed to leave myself full of shots into the greens and avoid partial shots inside 100 yards three if you played only six clubs which would you play and what kind of score would you expect for picking your favorite clubs and removing the ones you don't feel great about is very free five missing in the right areas is key when playing fewer clubs I was not expecting to pump one down this far and thought I was going to leave myself a nice fifty degree wedge from a hundred and twenty yards usually I play soggy courses so getting some roll out was very welcome the bounce of the ball as it landed at the green really looked weird I only discovered on the second hole that this course has a dirty little secret if we're hitting a 555 yard hole if I hit mine 230 240 I still have 300 in yeah that's perfect we can lay that up to a witch [Music] Heys I'm gonna keep saying it get that rangefinder because there's a little bump you can see over there and that one is only 200 ought to carry so once you know you can carry something you can just scan straight at it and not worry about where it's gonna go now you also have to be careful and these courses when you when you play them the second time now he's seen he's run out of fairway down there with his driver I mean the fear the rough is not too long here so it's okay but you definitely want to know where you're going to end up so you can have a clean lie is it's clear this guy defends this course with the areas around the green I mean look at the slope here if you long I'm gonna have it down slope down there if you're right this is probably a good miss over here but your best list here is going to be for this pin on the front or long right over here because you have a flatter chip now my problem is I'm in the dip down here because I'm hitting these partial shots and I don't like them so now I've got a bit of a tricky one I don't know how these guys did it back in the day but I'm gonna try get up and down here with a 50 degree or a putter [Music] [Music] you'll notice quite a lot in this round how I avoid the hazards like you avoid a mother-in-law when I play new courses I've actually started hitting the ball to Indiana I used to hit to Texas and Texas is great when it's easy to see but when you really need to be landlocked safe and dry Indiana is where you want to go but for us to be safe on this hole where the hell is Indiana I'd say on the front right of the green and if I could get a draw going I may finish in a good spot because the pin is on the back left of the green but of course with insecurity we hit the puffy shot this is a very very tough up-and-down look at how elevated the green is as angel demonstrates by walking up the slope for me [Music] the water is so far on the left side but with Indiana being firmly on the right I would just accept anything dry as a winner is there anything less fun than losing golf balls I wanted to finish this course with the same ball this is an often undervalued achievement it ranks right up there with breaking 100 or breaking 90 try finish the round with the ball you started with and see how great it makes you feel I hit the six iron off the tee so I could leave a full shot and for the green for a change I have to be careful with limited clubs to always leave a comfortable shot into the green I've managed that shot a little bit better I hit the six iron off the tee to try set up a seven about 160 yards in a bit downwind so maybe I have to take something off the seven not ideal that we're getting better [Music] [Music] okay players you can see missing in the correct area is essential the player player yon over here has missed this one a little bit to the right huge drop-off he's probably about five feet below the green should be a challenge but he seems like a player so let's see you yeah look at that look at the result what a man now we've changed our X we're going into the breeze I'm going to need a bit more Club on this one 380 yards let's even get that 2 on out there 200 odd 220 leave myself another 7-iron in at worst 6-iron we don't want to go longer than that because otherwise I have to take something off the 7 it's all about managing your best shots once again water way left but I want to go way right missing the middle earth of a fairway boys it's always better to be dry than wet better to be safe than sorry sometimes on your courses we just need to accept that we're going to miss fairways because we have no idea where the holes go and we don't know the course that well the key is to just stay in Playboy friends look at these green conferences here surrounded by bankers and undulations everywhere it's very difficult to miss greens here I mean even this one I'm trying to find where would be the best miss without playing this course I'm gonna have to say short because everywhere is below the green tough one tough one okay it looks like I may have found the best place to let the screen I think I may have a flattish shot from over here but I mean look at this all the way around yes downhill caddy is just getting in the way as usual angel and then got a massive tear on the green there way beyond is walking and around here you've got more drop-off I would say the best position to be is you're not going to make this green is yeah short I've got the second base position here [Music] so this is where the rangefinder comes in nice 120 yards to carry the water so we have to hit something more than 120 there's a there's a down slope behind the hole so anything going one 160 should be fine because the holes at about 155 it's into the breeze so we want a club up we have to make sure we get it all the way to the whole trouble short go long Joe the main man at Forest City joined us for a little paw three ski he claims a 15 handicap let's see how he gets on [Music] yeah [Applause] [Music] Oh what is swing okay okay any scramble game you and my team on this approach I was a little unsure about the pitching wedge approach shot landing hard and bouncing into the back bunker being in a bunker would be a disaster with a 50 degree wedge especially when the green sloped back to front I could see it was an easy chip short of the green so I would be happy with a shot just short of the green the chip would actually be makeable from the front of the green it's not many options here we've got a koala long carry and then we run to the green like if I had more loft like a 58 degree I would get it on with a 58 with a 50 degree I'm gonna bound pass the whole of there's a Down you'll pass the whole so I want to be putting this one make sure I get up and down into maybe haul it in truth players I had a bit of a flu on this day I took some medicine beforehand which did not mix well with the beer Yan bought me after their par 3 over the water it hit me and I was feeling quite unique indeed I'm gonna go six iron here boys I'm gonna try to get it over the bunk in the fairway it's about 178 yards to carry there so I'm gonna be sure with the 6-iron try get about 190 on to that fairway have a little wedge or something in not much other choice because there's so much junk on the lip well you can imagine if I hate partial shots you can imagine just how much I hate partial shots from a bunker not the brightest course management ever I was looking for the fairway right but if I hit a seven I'd be in the bunker there but I pulled it out I've hit the six into this bunker bit of a tricky holder so what would I do next time probably hit it in the rough over here with like a 7-iron or pitching wedge to set up a full pitching wedge into the green no idea how did a 73 yard shot you got to manage the course whether you have six twelve or fourteen don't leave yourself the shots you hate [Music] I knew this hole needed to beautiful six irons I want to hit a full shot into greens perhaps another six iron let's be safe let's be dry and let's doesn't that Hotel look like something from a science fiction movie what place I'm thinking of holding a golf sidekick golf event here in 2020 what do you think players let me know in the comments below [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay not a long one 370 yards we get a half Li hit the six it seems to be working it leaves me with a full seven or full six into the green then we drop birdies [Music] [Music] hey the bit too cocky on the tee there we can't be too cocky boys Golf is a game that brings you down to earth very quickly this is something we can all do better by setting up a stress-free shot for our next shots that's one important step to becoming a player of the highest order boyfriends absolute top tip here from the sidekick take this with you everywhere you go that one I just hit the 7-iron too hard and I chopped it if you want to hit further use less loft don't hit the other club harder it's simple don't be like me be better than me [Music] what's the name of off Uranus what are you trying to say a big hole this hole is called Uranus she's not even kidding what a day what a hole okay one eighty six six on but I carry all these bunkers that's not a problem the main issue is that bunker every every green here looks like it's super thin like a Penta liner so it's 186 slightly with us the wind so it's gonna be a very easy six from the fixin's the 25 degree Club I think it's 27 actually so middle of the green with a draw straight toward that electric pylon in the back I have no idea how to hit this green players I think maybe the blades which give me a bit more spin would hold green but without that spin I really can only play to the right the lower lofted lowest spin trixin just isn't producing the stopping power on these firm greens it's almost impossible to hit the screen it's probably fifteen yards long massive slope over there a little catchment area here would probably be best but then you you're pitching up to a slope it's like a dome shape with a hole over there and a huge down slope there if you go along the slope on the green is insane there is insane way it's not enjoyable but this is my jam 100 percent challenging and fair [Music] [Music] always these greens are no joke they stay and you late they have big breaks they have drop-offs when you go too long you can end off end up off the green like all yarns being a couple times I mean he's the man another birdie charge oh you should be safe yeah you should be safe but my caddy angel told me that the chip was easier right of the pin and a little bit short I had already assumed left of the pin would be good so of course my body took over from what my head was saying and I tried for her life it's hard to commit to a new idea once you've already committed to the one in your head when the ego gets in the way it's even worse because you actively try to prove your right look at these drop-offs you really need to play this course a couple of times to know where everything is but there was no letter [Music] [Music] [Music] it was a challenge on every hole when approaching but we can't get down players we just have to keep plugging away give yourself a putt and you give yourself a chance to save the whole day I should have used the 50-degree just got it from the cart and not try to knock down a pitching wedge which is not a confident shot I've got the club in my bag of my neighbour six at least use them I missed this one in probably the worst position possible I had no option here but to chip it to the right and just get it on the green for a patent par if I go at the pin it hits a steep and I mean steep downslope and will roll about ten yards off the front of the green which also slopes down at the edge I did what I tell the players to do when the risks are high I went away from the pin we can always make a putt players [Music] [Music] okay boys luckily the rafts not too long here not hitting too many fairways report situation reporter Vienna sitrep luckily the ruffs not too long I'm not missing the fairways by much maybe three yards yeah easy approach ball below the feet with my old clubs easy life [Music] [Music] it makes a bit of time to adapt to only having six clubs but once you do you start to look at the holes clearer I mean a new short is better on these holes so I aimed it just over here because I have no idea I mean the drop offs are insane here on the left side you could drop off on this side short yeah you flat and over here you have another drop off and over the back you get again so I'm quite happy with this I think I'm country 7 now we just have to hold this one in happy days hey boys you know me I'm a bit of a fan of innocence this is a ball that I've used for the last three rounds good and bad Nick looks pretty good quite durable I don't know what the hell are today kind of let's do it or what but that is not looking good I must have smashed a rock solid very nice balls good value in a system if I had a driver I would go at the green with 320 yards to the pin [Music] okay okay let's try one on thank you it always things to make a 5 on these short par fours just like a 6 on a par 5 but at the end of the day players what's the big deal it just took five shots to get in the hole there are plenty more holes to play in life and plenty more spanking to do some not easy RIT 142 to the pin 7 I'll to knock down will not stop on the screen I'm thinking I'm going at the pin with a draw with a wedge if I connect it I'll be on if I draw it I should be left which looks to me the easiest chip considering the club I have the beer and medicine will offer around this time and I was ready for asleep Oh [Music] oh do I I cannot go over there's water and Beach behind there in a partial shut range so I'm gonna have to really try hard to maybe fade this 50 degree or something my fever has come back the medicine has worn off not feeling great maybe that'll take some power out the shot maybe we got this not the best finish boys but you know what I had so much fun with Yan a new friend a legend a player an angel was a superb caddy I get a stroke all the par fives as they are very low index so a six scored on them is actually a part for me do I care about my score maybe a little did I enjoy the hell out of this round with Yan yes I did do I love the forest city golfing complex without a doubt do I need to play this course again to know where to hit it yes do I need 14 clubs to shoot a better score I don't think so in my ideal minimalist bag for the course I would have driver to iron 6-iron trixin 6-iron Mizuno MP 62 7-iron Mizuno MP 62 and a full complement of wedges because of the green complexes 47-degree Mizuno 50-degree Cleveland 54-degree TaylorMade 58-degree Mizuno and a putter I think with those nine clubs in a putter I would have had a better score by a long way this course demands a good short game and an accurate well thought-out approach game when doing an experiment like this with only 2 4 6 8 clubs you learn a lot about course management you need to plan holes so you leave comfortable approaches in and you learn how to miss a green if you are going to miss it or put another way you learn how to avoid shorts adding yourself honestly throw away the strokes gained nonsense that doesn't apply one iota to amateur golfers because there is no field to measure against hit your best Club off the tee to set up your best approach clubs into the greens avoid short citing yourself around the greens and never three putt you need to always leave yourself the easiest chip and you also need to stay dry and in play this is the formula to strokes gained for amateurs go gain those strokes like a bauss
