Welcome to the PDGA Rules School. I'm Sara Hokom here to help you learn
the basics of the official rules of disc golf. Welcome to rules school episode one, the official rules of disc
golf, the rules of disc golf represent the common understanding
by which we all agree to play. They create the basic conditions necessary
for the sport's greatest moments. As the stakes grow larger, especially for
professionals, so does the need to create fairness and consistency
through a set of thorough and clear rules. Players competing in the PDGA Elite Series
or major events must pass the Certified Official Rules exam, requiring extensive
knowledge of the official rules . But even players
competing in local leagues and tournaments should have a firm
grasp of the basic rules to have the best chance of playing well
and having fun.
Since the first rule book
was published in 1986, the PDGA has been developing the rules
of disc golf to cover every aspect of the game. Each year, the rules and competition
manual are reviewed, and amended by the Board of Directors based upon recommendations from the PDGA
Rules and Competition Committees. When crafting those recommendations,
the largely volunteer committees rely on member feedback, staff
input and committee expertize. This video series will help by introducing
you to the fundamental rules that you need to know to succeed at your next event
with a solid understanding of these rules. You, as a player, can go into leagues
and tournaments with the confidence to play your best. The only way to provide fair competition
across the entire tournament is for everyone
to follow the rules. Tournament play relies on sportsmanship from the players
and enforcement from your card mates. There are not going to be officials or referees around to make a call
for every player on the course, so you are required to watch a card race
just as they were required to watch you.
If a player commits a rules violation, it is the responsibility of the players
on the card to notice the violations. While the penalty and enforce the rules. Watch the rest of our rules of disc golf
series or visit PDGA.com/rules
for official rules and regulations. See you out on the course..
