I've heard a variety of different analogies
as to what it feels like to get in the proper golf setup. I've heard some people say it feels like they're
sitting on a barstool and quite honestly I don't know if that's the right analogy in
that if you're sitting on a barstool you're likely putting too much weight into your heels
as you're sitting back down onto the barstool and you're probably not in very good posture
at that point either. I've also heard people say it feels like you're
playing defense in basketball — I don't know if that's quite it either. The best analogy I've seen and heard is that
of the stance of a referee.
If you look at a referee, they're usually
in a position where their hands, if they were to put their hands on their knees, it would
be just above their kneecaps with a light flex in the knee. They're not over-flexed, putting their weight
into their heels, they're not locked where their weight is too much into their toes. They're in a very balanced, grounded position
here where they're ready to move. The Referee Drill is to do just that: take
that athletic position by putting your hands just on top of your knees and then from there
grip a golf club. This referee position will help you get in
a sound, balanced position at address before you pull the trigger.
Swing Better. Play Better. GolfTEC..
