over the years the 15 to 20 degree loft on the golf club for most people has been a love or hate relationship but now with all the options that are available and all the technology that's been introduced into golf clubs there's a lot more choice on offer which is why today we're going to be taking a look at a few different options in particular we're going to be looking at the sim udi the p792 iron and the sim hybrid when i test all these a bit later on in the video they're all going to be 18 degrees aloft of the same loft now there is even just the tail made a few different options you can get in the 18 degrees of loft so there's also a sim max which is a bit more of a forgiving head compared to the sim hybrid there's the sim dhy which is a slightly bigger head than the udi and a bit more forgiving and then there's the sim titanium and sim max 5 wood which you could also go for so as i say there is a lot of choice to choose from in that 18 degree loft category but today you might notice that i'm focusing on the smaller profile heads as the p792n hasn't been out that long i thought it'd be interesting just to compare these other two that are kind of the equivalent to it help me do this and now as usual in my videos going to be handing you over to our team golf club tester who apparently is running even later than usual today and yes that's right of course it's the bummer so i've instructed the bomber here to use the same ball for every shot and he's also had a pretty good warm-up prior to this video so there's no unfair advantages to which one goes first and which one goes last so to start off the main thing you're going to notice between these three is the forgiveness of them and just generally how easy each one is to hit so if you're an elite ball striker like myself you might be interested in persuaded more towards the b790 or style like that or if you're after something that's gonna help you get it up in the air a bit easier and just give you a bit more forgiveness and something like a rescue or hybrid or even a five wood might tickle your fancy a bit more and then if you're not quite sure and maybe you want to be best of both worlds then that's kind of where i think the udi and the dhy comes in they're just kind of like a middle ground between these two so when you put these three down side by side next to each other when you're addressing the ball you can actually see quite a big difference between the two driving irons and then obviously you're going to notice a big difference with the hybrid but even just the drive lines here the udi and the p790 the p790 has a much smaller profile much smaller top line it makes it look a lot more like a blade so if you're looking for something that's going to fill you with a bit more confidence then this p790 isn't it but if you do like the look of a driving iron i just need to have a bit more forgiveness and confidence there that's when the dhy or the udi which we're testing today is a pretty good option to look for as for the hybrids so this sim hybrid that i'm trying has the ability to change the lock which the sim max one which is the more forgiving head actually doesn't but this sim head does have quite a bit of a small head than the sim max and i quite like the look of this profile i personally quite like a bit of a small hat but i do like the idea of a hybrid so this sim is actually quite a nice design it kind of just looks like a supercharged ion in some way also what a hybrid gives you that the driving iron won't is just the ability to be able to get under the ball easier and just get the ball launched because all the weights further back in the club and especially when you're playing out as like a thick lie or like a bit of semi-rough or something you've got quite quite a bad lie basically getting a hybrid on it is a lot easier than usually getting a driving iron on it but then on the other hand if you're wanting to play like a low shot or you're trying to keep it under the wind hybrid isn't going to be as effective as say a driving iron will anyway now that the bomber has hit 10 shots with each of these three let's take a look over the numbers and just see exactly what's going on so starting off with the launch angle so with them all being set to the same degree at 18.
It's quite interesting to see quite a bit of a varied difference between them well at least from the udi to the hybrid i'm noticing quite a bit of a difference and to be fair as i mentioned before the hybrid is kind of expected to be launching a bit higher because that's what it's designed for so it's not that surprising to see that launching higher over the other two as for the other two there wasn't actually that much in between them and then that actually translated over into the peak height and the descent angle so the hybrid was launching higher travelling at an overall higher yardage and it was coming down and landing a lot steeper than the other two which again is kind of what you'd expect from the hybrid and then the other two pretty much the same thing again so one yard separating them on the peak height so how high it went and then the descent angle is exactly the same so again not too much to choose from between the two irons so with the side spin so how much is actually turning in the air which for the bomber is always a draw so this is basically how much it's drawing the p790 was drawing was besides been in at the least so this was looking like it was the most under control and the bomber seemed to have a bit more control over how the shot shape was planning out and what i always tend to find especially with the bomber when hitting a rescue or a hybrid there's always a tendency of over drawing it like even just now and again one might just creep in when it goes really far left it's just a really bad snapbook and i'm not quite sure what it is about the hybrids but there's something that just creeps in there and that's why he's always been kind of hesitant as to whether to put one in the bag or not but the hybrid was definitely turning a lot more than the other two irons and the sim was kind of in between the two it was actually quite a surprising one like moving on to the backspin now another type of spin was to see the p790 spinning the least but once again there wasn't actually that much to choose between the three which is 150 rpm of backspin in terms of backspin it's not a lot at all that's for distance which is quite an important one for most people once again the two irons are pretty much the same with just one yard separating them and the hybrid was going a bit further five or six yards and that's pretty much what i would have expected to see and what's a bit of an odd one here is that the p 792 iron and the rescue both averaging zero yards offline so overall on average every shot was going straight down the middle is obviously not the case but the average dispersion was zero but the sim udi was going six yards to the left on average so there's a bit of a tendency to go left with that by the looks of it which what i think is strange because the sim hybrid was actually drawing a lot more than the sim udi which means that the sim hybrid must have been starting out to the right more than what the iron was doing can't exactly pinpoint why that might be but that's why we test close to see what comes up because things like that that we wouldn't expect kind of just creep in but yeah the main difference is to keep in mind here obviously the locks are into the profile and how they sit at address so what's going on through your mind when you're looking at the club behind the ball and then that also translates into how forgiving the club actually is so really the key thing here is looking at your game and just deciding what your preference is on what you need from the club so one end of the scale you've got your hybrid which is going to give you a bit of a higher launch it's going to go a bit further and just give you a bit more forgiveness and power beyond the ball a bit more confidence and then on the other end of the scale you've got your p792 iron which will appear to give you a bit more control over them get more feel and feedback off the face when you're striking it but the most important thing with the irons is the flight of them so if you're playing like windy courses quite often or you're playing a lynx cause or something it wouldn't be a bad idea to put one of the irons in your back because it's just a lot easier to fight it lower and as you saw the numbers the backspin was quite a bit lower so that's just ideal for plain and windy conditions so that's why i'm saying it really just comes down to what you need and what you want in your game more than anything yeah you definitely like the smaller sort of profile of club i would definitely recommend giving these three a go i'm just seeing what sort of small profile of club you like the most if you have tested them or tried them before let me know in the comments i'd love to know how you got on with them and as for me i will see you in the next one thanks for watching
