– Hi there, and thanks
for tuning in today. Are you ready to get those iron shots nice and high, with that soft landing? If so, this is the video for you. So stay tuned. So, the easiest and most sure-fire way to maintain nice wide swing arm, from address to impact and thus resulting in that consistent contact in the middle of the club face, is to maintain that width. Now, one of the ways and keeping that, and let me say this and keeping that lead
arm nice and straight. We don't have to lock that arm. I want you to know that, but we definitely don't want it bent. And, you know, bent at 90 degrees or something close to that. So one of the easiest
ways to remember to focus on keeping that lead arm straight, is to focus on the trail arm. And we can do that with a really kind of simple
way of thinking about it.
(murmurs) My setup, what I'm going to do is, I'm going to focus on pressing this lifeline of my left hand. Again for righties, it'll
be the opposite way. (murmur) left, this
lifeline of my left hand into my thumb of my right hand. So now when I do that, as I
bring the club back, right if I'm, I'm going back
here, what happens is that I'm going out nice and wide, right? Which is what we talked about versus kind of just whipping over here.
But you know, a lot of us will do that. And what happens is, we come in and we're coming really narrow. There's no chance for arc. And again, that's why that
contact will happen here at the bottom of the club
instead of that center. So if you think about again, pushing that lifeline right in the middle of the hand of your trail side into the thumb of your
lead, you'll come up with the nice wide arc and
be ready to strike them in the center of the face, to get that high launch and that soft landing
that we all just love. Okay. If you're ready to
begin working on coming in with that shallower path so that you can catch the center of the club face, here's a nice simple drill for you to think about.
So what you set up with your ball, as I'm doing here. I have a ball and that is a scorecard, because we need something
that's kind of got a little bit of heft to it
but not too big and not, we don't want it to get in the way too much of the club path. And you'll see what I
mean in just a moment. So I'm using this scorecard
here folded in half and the ball. What I'm going to do is, (murmur) The ball is obviously going to be in the proper position for
the club that I'm using. But more importantly, that
scorecard is just a bit behind it so that I have to focus on really bringing the club face down not so steep. Which is how a lot of us end up hitting right there at
the bottom of the club.
But coming in at that shallower angle of attack so that I get the
center of the club face. And then that's allowing the loft of the club to do it's work. Okay. So it's nice and simple,
and you'll be surprised that it'll, it'd be very enlightening. It takes a little bit of practice but I encourage you to do it. So let's see how it goes. Contact wider more width, shallower attack angle, center of the face of the club. Keep practicing and you'll be hitting those high arcing shots with a soft landing too.
See you in the next video..
