Hello everyone! I'm Michele. Welcome to my channel, Golf With Michele Low. Today, we talk about the actual golf swing. We already talked about GASP. And body rotation. Today we talk about Back Swing and Down Swing. The saying goes that "we must learn to walk first before we run." Hence, today we start with learning to do a quarter swing before a full swing. Before we start, get your golf club ready and a tee. If you're at the driving range, you can buy a rubber short tee. And of course, golf balls. The tee will make the learning process easier.
The most important thing here is to have a good impact on the ball. The ball doesn't move, we must have a good impact on the ball. The tee is important for your training. Firstly we start with learning to do a small swing (quarter swing). This will allow us to use our body to generate power for the swing. If we start we a full swing, we will have a tendency to use our arms to power the swing. We don't want to use the arms. We should use our body to generate the power to swing first. Once we get use to our body to generate the power, the rest of learning process will be smoother. Let's start. With GASP. We must pay attention to the distance between your grip and body. I like to use a fist with a thumb.
And rest my left hand on my left thigh. Then rest the grip on the thumb. This distance is perfect. This is a good set-up position. I wish to illustrate the swing with a clock. To illustrate how far the Back Swing and the Down Swing. If this is the clock, we focus on 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock. No. 2 is we have to create a triangle using our arms. In the triangle, the wrists and arms will not move. Extend your arms and rotate body until the club head reach 8 o'clock.
You can notice my shoulders slowly rotate. Shoulders slowly rotate. How to we swing to this position? I want you to use the end of the club and point it at your belly button. Grip your club lower until the shaft. Move your club head to 8 o'clock. You must have the feeling that your club, arms and shoulders move together as one. Once we are here. I want you to use your shoulders to rotate right using body rotation. And the hips will follow to rotate. The shaft is parallel with the ground. Like this. Back Swing until shaft is parallel with ground. Down Swing start with a push.
The push with right shoulder coming down. Like I said earlier… If I don't have the push movement. And my shoulders rotate, you can see my club head goes wide. The club head cannot come down from here. To arrive here at the ball. It's important, when we reach here…. In the back swing when the shaft is parallel with the ground. Our right arm will bend a little bit. But not much. And our left knee will move down and inwards a little bit during the rotation. Thank you for watching this episode on quarter swing. Now you can go and practise. I'm excited for you. Next episode we will talk about half swing. Before you go into half swing, you must practise your quarter swing first.
