[Music] so understanding that people do things different is okay as long as they're matched up alright guys let's talk about some unique moves that I love actually some of my favorite golf swings would be like Dustin Johnson Sergio Jim Furyk some that actually have some some things that people would call cork yeah I actually really really like I would say for a Dustin Johnson why do these things work I mean everybody on tour that I see has a matchup and what I mean by a matchup if somebody's closed they're not gonna have a normal release they're gonna have a hold off if you get a guy or a girl or anybody who's wide open in the downswing you're gonna see that they're not Dustin's matchup they're gonna have something like this okay so a matchup is something to get you back to hit the ball on line okay so when I look at a Dustin who already has a stronger grip and I have talked to him about how he got his face to be so much more shut than others would be the concept that he thought the face should be Square to that line and as he got up here it was still square okay so he's up here in flexion and granted he has neutral that fairly stronger grip at the moment could change tomorrow I don't know and you look and his club is like this now like I said before a lot of players say how do I get so rotated how do I get more like dustin well if you were like dustin and you had a normal club face and your arm was that deep and your that turned your ball is gonna go yard right okay so make sure your clubface looks like dustin if you want to have his rotation okay and your elbow that deep okay into external rotation that long okay you better have it matched up okay that would be one matchup I consider I could go through the whole tour and find out where each one of those are those are matched up and is it optimal match up well let's talk about another matchup let's say I've got a junior that weighs 70 pounds okay and they're trying to swing it like Dustin with Dustin's grip and they're pure in it how high do you think they're gonna hit the ball in the air okay they're not gonna hit it up in the air because they are actually not creating enough speed to get the deal off the dynamic loft which is so down to get the ball up in the air like Dustin does so it is not optimal it might be you know the smash factor might be optimal I mean it might be amazing but it's not going to hold a green so it's it's not optimal okay then you've got a player who is weighing about 60 pounds and they're jumping up and their handle looks like this and the club the ball is getting up in the air and it's holding greens naturally well that's good at that age and that that strength at that time in their life but as they get older this is not optimal the ball is gonna go too high and too short once you start actually adding speed to it so when we talk about optimal make sure that you're actually optimal as far as the actual numbers we're looking for we don't want to be someone with no speed D loft in it and we don't want to be somebody with a lot of speed adding loft cuz they're not good matchups okay so that's one matchup let's talk about one of my favorite swings Jim Furyk okay now Jim Furyk is a lot like my players he used to have more pronounced it would be more up and up boom and then he'd actually get it back here and he'd actually be so turned out which to me I love okay this means that he's got path to face control not a lot of curve on his ball okay that would be amazing so the more he went this way and he started to turn the shot just laid down by itself and when it lays down by itself early you can add a lot more rotation if it's coming and steep you're always going to try and get that Club to get back behind you now the face is open and you're gonna have to do something to activate to activate your hands to get the club back to square so that would be it not a proper matchup so when I swing when and I go over the head or Jim Furyk goes here or not wolf one of my players or Johnny Ruiz and get their club to go outside the hand I have zero problem because as they turn just like when we throw a ball is that this that gets me actually in the slot or is actually my rotation the thing that's actually getting me in the slot or is it I'm ruining that rotation you tell me did I go like this or did I actually turn I actually turned and that thing got in the slot okay I am NOT trying to get the thing in the slot so when you get a guy like Jim Furyk to do this its natural motion your arms gone from internal to external with rotation okay let's lock talk about another one one of my favorite I would say he's my favorite and he doesn't fall into my swing model in the backswing but he sure does fall into my swing model as the downswing and that's what I think's the most important and only thing that really matters besides the setup of how the pivot is and what you have to do because now you can't rotate but here you can rotate whether you're off and have some of this or you're centered and you rotate that'll get your shot the ship that's what makes that's what's important to me or if it's optimal for speed okay so when we talk about Sergio Sergio has very little wrist hinge okay he actually comes out about right about here I mean he's in my position he's about right here he has a lot of early hips and his chest days back his shoulders really really high okay so he's more into this position right here which leads him to just be able to turn and he is one of the best ball strikers for years and years now over 20 years he's been one of the best ball strikers on tour and it's not a matchup why don't why don't people try and do that he do you think he's trying to actually do this of course he's not so when he actually gets to the top and he leaves his arms right here and he turns that club shallows out all by itself he might feel like he's doing something but when you watch it it's one of my favorite motions I've ever seen so it is that a matchup I wouldn't even call it a matchup I just I call that amazing it's just it's your pivot that's getting him in the slot and we're all trying to copy him by going and that's not what he's trying to do okay so when we look at that think about mashups what are optimal and why so many different golf swings on tour are working it's not just about matchups of what that what the face is doing in how I'm holding it off with my release patterns or what kind of swing directions we're looking at what kind of ball patterns are these guys trying to hit or they draw or their cutters that's what's determining what their golf swing is doing and how it's matched up with the face to create a ball pattern so we're looking more at golf swings and they're looking at ball patterns I mean I got to hang out with Bubba the other day and Bubba's arms are up here most players are try and get it back in the slot by going like this Bubba's just up here he has no hardly any depth he's over here but he's not trying to get it back inside he's just turning and hitting cut he can hit anything but he primarily tries to hit cuts okay so his matchup isn't the same as most players most players who get their Club to get out with no DEP in their hands that high if they actually left them up and turn they'd be way out here the shop would still shallow but if you went over here and you started trying to get it back inside whether it's sliding or pulling your handle down to get it back inside you're going to be steep but Bobby decides hey I'm up here I'm just gonna turn and guess what I'm just gonna hit cuts but it's not a steep cut it's actually a shot that's pretty actually shallow and he just cuts it so another matchup that is super optimal [Music]
